Hormones produced by the thyroid determine the rate of energy production in each one of our cells. Therefore, the thyroid can be thought of as the master control gland for our body’s metabolism. Proper levels of thyroid hormones are necessary for the health of every tissue and organ system in the human body.
The classic symptoms of low thyroid function include:
- Heart disease
- Fatigue
- Puffy face
- Swollen skin
- Cold hands/feet
- Inability to maintain a normal weight
- Allergies
- Frequent infections/low immune function
- Depression
- Myxedema
- Constipation
- Hair loss
- Dry skin
- High cholesterol
- Muscle pain
I evaluate each patient’s thyroid function based on their whole clinical presentation: symptoms, family history, lifestyle, physical exam findings, and lab results. I prescribe natural dessicated thyroid hormones for patients with hypothyroidism and offer alternatives to thyoid ablation and conventional drug therapy for patients with hyperthyroidism.
